Repositioning microbial biotechnology against COVID-19: the case of microbial production of flavonoids
Repositioning microbial biotechnology against COVID-19: the case of microbial production of flavonoids
Several docking studies investigating the interaction of flavonoids with the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein are available. Several studies also investigated the interaction of flavonoids with the human ACE-2 receptor. These interactions might also block the viral entry into host cells. Two flavonoids were observed to have very good binding values to either the spike protein or ACE-2 in several studies, namely hesperidin and epigallocatechin gallate. Given the structural differences of SARS-CoV spike and SARS-CoV-2 spike, experimental studies should take a broad variety of flavonoids into account, with a focus on hesperidin, gallocatechin gallates and derivatives, since docking studies were promising across many studies.
Molecular docking study of potential phytochemicals and their effects on the complex of SARS‑CoV2 spike protein and human ACE2
Molecular docking study of potential phytochemicals and their effects on the complex of SARS‑CoV2 spike protein and human ACE2
Angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) (EC:3.4.17.23) is a transmembrane protein which is considered as a receptor for spike protein binding of novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV2). Since no specific medication is available to treat COVID-19, designing of new drug is important and essential. From this analysis, hesperidin, emodin and chrysin are selected as competent natural products from both Indian and Chinese medicinal plants, to treat COVID-19. Among them, the phytochemical hesperidin can bind with ACE2 protein and bound structure of ACE2 protein and spike protein of SARS-CoV2 noncompetitively.
Is hesperidin essential for prophylaxis and treatment of COVID-19 Infection?
Is hesperidin essential for prophylaxis and treatment of COVID-19 Infection?
Hesperidin is a classical herbal medicine used worldwide for a long time with an excellent safety profile. Hesperidin is a well-known herbal medication used as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Available shreds of evidence support the promising use of hesperidin in prophylaxis and treatment of COVID 19.

Hesperidin and SARS-CoV-2: New Light on the Healthy Function of Citrus Fruits
This short review draws the attention on some components of citrus fruits, and especially of the orange (Citrus sinensis), well known for its vitamin and flavonoid content. Among the flavonoids, hesperidin has recently attracted the attention of researchers, because it binds to the key proteins of the Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
