Supreme Pharmatech and other four companies becoming major players in hemp business in Thailand
Maejo University and FDA open a channel for commercial hemp plantation at the North of Thailand

Maejo University organized the meeting to introduce the project “Commercial Hemp Growing License” in order to provide better knowledge to obtain a license to planting hemp with involvement of competent parties to provide correct information. The event got very high public attention.
29th of January 2021 Maejo University opened an application for “Commercial Hemp Growers”. The following people were presented — Assoc. Prof. Dr.Weerapol Thongma (President of Maejo University), Prof. Dr.Arnut Tansho (Director of Research and Development of Natural Agriculture Department), Mrs. Narumon Kantee (Consumer Protection and Pharmacy Department at Chiang Mai Provincial Health Office), Mr.Pison Sribanthit (Pharmacist at Chiang Mai Provincial Health Office). They provided the correct information of how to have the commercial license of hemp grower, also how to do import and export of hemp and what are the legal punishments for hemp possession.
Prof. Dr. Anat Tancho, Director of the Natural Agricultural Research and Development Center of Maejo University, said that the event took place today, because on 30th of December 2020 Thai FDA had announced the decision to allow hemp growing, import, export, sell or have in possession of narcotics of category 5 “only hemp” (hemp) and the decision was effective since 29th of January 2021.
The Natural Agricultural Research and Development Center, Maejo University, organized this event to provide the general public about this decision and to announce correct understanding of the process of applying for a license to grow hemp. Moreover, the invitation to get knowledge of growing process at organic hemp plantation learning center of Maejo University was granted to interested in this topic.
Many related organizations and agencies, who were attending the event, provided valuable advices and suggestions about Commercial Hemp Cultivation Permit License and information about distribution channels.
Five companies, who applied for hemp processing Licenses were presented too, they are:
- SUPREME PHARMATECH
- HEMPLAB (THAILAND)
- DOD BIOTECH
- EA STERN SPECTRUM GROUP
- GLOBAL CONSUMER
The event organizers provided potential growers with full information how to get a Commercial Permit License.
After the “Hemp Knowledge” lecture was over, the representative of the Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Office opened for sign up permits for growers who are interested to have a Commercial Petmit License of hemp grower. Very big number of people showed an interest to sign up. This event was considered to be a great boost for Chiang Mai area. After this event the applicants must bring the documents to be submitted at Public Health Office in every provinces.
Prof. Dr.Arnut Tansho, The Director of Research and Development of Natural Agriculture Department at Maejo University, said that hemp is very useful and has high value. Hemp can be used as a fiber for textile industry, hemp seed oil can be used for cosmetic industry, and CBD oil has high cost of more than 100,000 Baht per liter. Growers interested to get a Commercial Permit License must obtain good knowledge of hemp before starting growing. Research and Development of Natural Agriculture Department at Maejo University opens training courses for hemp under “Hemp Commercial License”.
Prof. Dr. Weerapon Thongma Chancellor of Maejo University has announced that their research team has been studying marijuana and hemp, and in the near future the university will provide Thai growers with the locally produced seeds. In addition to this, Maejo University is developing techniques to apply processed marijuana and hemp to food, drinks, cosmetics, seasonings and other products.
